Frequently Asked Questions

Women for Wishes, is an initiative by Make-A-Wish Ireland that brings together influential women from all walks of life to make a difference in the lives of children with critical illnesses. Participants are tasked with raising €3,000, to help grant wishes in their community. This unique program harnesses the power of community, compassion, and collaboration to grant wishes that bring joy, strength, and hope to our wish children and their families.

Taking part in Women for Wishes offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children facing serious illnesses. By joining this campaign, you will:

  1. Make a positive impact: You will help us in our vision to grant a wish for every eligible child living in Ireland as an integral part of their treatment journey.
  2. Network with Inspiring Women: Connect with passionate, like-minded women who are dedicated to philanthropy and making a difference in their communities.
  3. Celebrate achievements: Join us for an awards lunch in January, to celebrate the achievements of all participants and recognise your valuable contributions. We couldn’t grant wishes without people like you!

We understand that fundraising can be challenging. Make-A-Wish does not receive any government funding and relies overwhelmingly on the kindness of the Irish public to continue granting wishes. That means that anything you raise is a huge support to us and our mission. If you are struggling to reach your target:

  1. Reach out to us: Let us know about your progress and any obstacles you may be facing.
  2. Access support: We can provide resources, tips, and personalised support to help you achieve your fundraising goal. Our team is always available to help you!
  3. Keep going!: Every contribution, regardless of size, makes a significant impact.

Partnering with other women is encouraged and can make your fundraising efforts more effective and enjoyable. You can:

  1. Create a team: Why not collaborate with friends, colleagues, or family members to combine your strengths and resources!
  2. Collaborate on Events: Plan and host fundraising events together to maximise impact.
You can join Women for Wishes 2024 at any stage before December 2024. No matter how much you raise between the time you register, and the end of the campaign, it will be a massive support to our mission or granting wishes to children in Ireland with life-threatening illnesses.
No, Women for Wishes is for all women – whether you are working or retired, whether you are part-time or full-time, whether you are at the most senior level or you are at an entry level. We want all women to come together and showcase their brilliance, innovation, and empathy by supporting our mission to grant more wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.
Yes, we encourage all participants to join our private LinkedIn and Facebook Groups, sign up to our monthly newsletter, and attend our series of virtual and in–person events throughout the initiative. You can lean on other participants for inspiration, ideas, and support, and make great connections and friends that last far beyond December.

Some good ways to fundraise are:

  • Set up your iDonate fundraising page at initiative registration to track your fundraising total.
  • Share the page with family, friends, and colleagues through chat apps like WhatsApp and Slack.
  • Share the page on social media e.g. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram.
  • Take on a challenge e.g. enter a race, learn a new skill, do a trek.
  • Organise in-person or virtual events to boost funds e.g. bake sales, quizzes, raffles.
  • Utilise a skill of yours and ask people to donate in lieu of payment e.g. if you knit you could sell knitted items for donations, if you are a photographer, you could take professional or family pictures for donations, or if you are a performer, you could hold a charity concert/show.
  • Ask your employer to match donate the funds you raise. Many employers in Ireland faciliate this.

Your employer can support you and the Women for Wishes initiative by matching your fundraising total (Some employers can match fund what you raise for charity so you could enquire about your own company’s policy), allowing you to fundraise in your workplace (e.g. bake sale, raffle, or quiz for colleagues), promoting your fundraising efforts in internal and external communication channels, or providing space to host a Women for Wishes networking event.
